In my first year Spanish class, back in high school when I had no idea that I would ever live abroad or how important the Spanish language would become to me, our class had an open-ended project to make something related to Spanish-speaking culture. I think my mother had just read some crafts article about making paper maché balls around balloons, so I decided to make a paper maché piñata. The body was made around a beach ball, the head around a balloon, and the snout and feet were Dixie cups. I liked it too much to ever use it, so, ever since, it's been suspended above my mother at her place of work. Oddly, I've never heard any "when pigs fly" jokes about it.
